Gömöri, György (1934)
Literary historian, poet and translator. As an arts student, he took part in the debates of the Petőfi Circle in 1956 and edited the paper Egyetemi Ifjúság. He emigrated to Britain in November 1956 and was a founder of the Foreign Committee of the University Revolutionary Students' Committee. He taught at the University of California in 1963-4 and then became a research fellow at Harvard. He joining the faculty of Birmingham University in 1965 and taught Hungarian and Polish literature at Cambridge in 1969-2001. He currently lives in London.
