Szinetár, Miklós (1932)
Film and theatre director. Szinetár joined the Budapest Operetta Theatre in 1953 as a director and then chief director, moving to the Petőfi Theatre as art director in 1960. He introduced the genre of the musical to Hungary. In 1962, he moved to Hungarian Television, which was just beginning broadcasts and held leading posts there until the change of system. He began teaching in 1953 at the College of Drama and Film (now a university), holding the post of head of a faculty several times. He was manager of the Operetta from 1993 to 1996 and then became intendant of the Budapest State Opera House until 2000. He returned to the post in 2002 after an interval of a year and a half. He has received several awards at home and abroad, including a Kossuth Prize in 1970 and the titles of Eminent Artist (1967) and Excellent Artist (1978).
