Communist politician. An iron turner by trade, Hidas became a party functionary in 1945 and secretary of the Budapest Party Committee in 1950-52. He was elected a member of the Political Committee and Central Committee Secretariat of the Hungarian Communist Party (MKP) in 1951, a deputy prime minister in 1952-3, minister of heavy industry in July 1953, minister of chemicals and energy in 1954, and again a deputy prime minister in October 1954. He was dismissed from his posts on October 23-4, 1956. In June 1957, he became a divisional head in the Ministry of Foundries and of Engineering Industry. |
